Fate of Coastal Ferry Uncertain

I paid a visit to the Jadrolinija office in Dubrovnik to find out if the coastal ferry would be operating this year. In previous years, the ferry ran twice per week from Dubrovnik – Vela Luka (Korcula) – Stari Grad (Hvar) – Split and then made the return trip as well. Jadrolinija has not yet posted the schedule on their website and have not commented on the fate of the schedule to date. The Jadrolinija employee I spoke to said that they have not yet decided whether the ferry route will operate this year. She said that they are unlikely to make a decision until May, and the route usually begins operating in June. She did say that they are considering discontinuing the service in the future, but that they may operate the route for the last time this summer.

The lack of available information makes it difficult for travelers to plan their holidays. If the ferry does not operate there are always other travel options available including local car and passenger ferries, high-speed catamaran service, and bus service. Information for these other services can be found on this blog and I will continue to update it as the summer season nears.

  3. Does this mean we would not be able to get from Korcula to Hvar Michelle/Andy? Or is there another way?

Panicking slightly as have just booked accommodation in both! :/ x

  4. Don't worry...there is also daily catamaran service between Korcula and Hvar. Here is the schedule: http://www.korculainfo.com/ferries/catamaran-korcula.htm.

Do you know if there is an update or not yet?

    Thanks again

    1. Hi Alan,

Unfortunately there is no update yet. Knowing Jadrolinija, the might wait until just a couple of days before the schedueld start (June 1st) to let us know if it is canceled or not.

  8. Hi both,
I was wondering if you could help. We are in the process of booking a holiday flying into Dubrovnik on 13th July and travelling back from Split on 20 July. The flights are booked and we have booked 3 nights in Dubrovnik (13-16 July) and two nights in Split (18-20 July) but we were hoping to visit Hvar and either Korluca/Mljet in between.

I have checked the Jadrolinija website and it looks as though there are no ferries running on the days we have planned to travel. Do you have any suggestions or any other websites we could look at? We are pretty flexible between the 16th - 18th and don't mind where we go, although we would be keen to stay one night in Hvar.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
    Steph

    1. Hi Steph,

With 2 nights I would suggest spending both on Hvar. The fastest, and easiest way, to get to Hvar would be to take a bus to Split and then a catamaran to Hvar. Buses leave Dubrovnik 15 times per day for Split and then the catamarans leave from just across the street from the bus terminal. It is an easy trip.
